One of the most important personalities of Crete, is none other than Nikos Kazantzakis. His unique personality and his entire work are located just 15 kilometers from the city of Heraklion, in a village with roots that go back to the Byzantium of the 10th century. The famous author’s worldview is summed up in one phrase: “I hope for nothing, I fear nothing, I am free”. His works have been translated into more than thirty languages and still have a great impact worldwide. After our visit to the Museum, we will enjoy some exceptional Cretan delicacies in the beautiful village of Archanes.
Nikos Kazantzakis – perhaps the most well-known modern Greek writer – was born in Heraklion in 1883. There, in the Martinengo bastion of the Venetian walls, lies his tomb today. On it, the famous phrase accompanies Nikos Kazantzakis on his eternal journey.
